Social Enterprise in Third World Countries TOMORROW

Spend an afternoon with Paul Polack, Founder of International Development Enterprises and Expert on Sustainable Economic Development

Thursday, April 3 (TOMORROW)
4:00PM
Barus and Holly room 751

Paul is the founder of IDE (International Development Enterprises) and an expert on sustainable economic development. In his new book, Out of Poverty – What Works When Traditional Approaches Fail, this impassioned and iconoclastic author, entrepreneur, inventor and self-identified “troublemaker,” tells why mainstream poverty eradication programs have fallen so sadly short and how he and his organization developed an alternative approach that has already succeeded in lifting 17 million people out of poverty.

“If we learn to listen to poor people, understand the
specific contexts in which they live and operate, and
find ways to harness their entrepreneurial energy
to increase their income, I have no doubt that at
least 500 million families now surviving on less than
a dollar a day will find practical ways to end their
poverty within one generation.”
PAUL POLAK, OUT OF POVERTY

Sponsored by the Division of Engineering, Program in Commerce, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship and the Swearer Center for Public Service

Residency in Social Enterprise Program – Application Due

Want to work with a nonprofit on a strategic level?
Want to learn more about the unique challenges nonprofits face and strategies that have been used to overcome them?
Want to learn about how consulting methods and tools can help make social sector organizations more effective?

New Sector Alliance is a nonprofit leadership development and consulting firm in Boston. New Sector works with other nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, and consulting firms, to structure substantive, meaningful strategic planning projects and equip talented young leaders to complete them.

New Sector’s Residency in Social Enterprise Program is for recent college graduates and professionals with 1-3 years of work experience. Through this program, Residents help a nonprofit organization measure its impact, improve its operating practices or broaden its reach. At the same time, they join a class of like-minded, committed individuals to participate in various workshops and training events designed to foster their own professional development. People who join New Sector develop leadership and management skills that cut across sectors while they explore the ways they can positively impact their community.

The upcoming deadline for the RISE program is this Friday, March 28th. Please send your application, a resume and cover letter, to Eileen Yang at rise@newsector.org. Guidelines for the statement of interest can be found at http://www.newsector.org/services/students/bachelors.php.

Please check out New Sector’s website: www.newsector.org for additional information. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
