ACCION International is a private, nonprofit organization with the mission 
of giving people the financial tools they need – microenterprise loans, 
business training and other financial services – to work their way out of 
poverty. The Center for Financial Inclusion is a newly created 
industry-building initiative bringing microfinance and financial sector 
players together to solve problems that constrain access to financial 
services for the poor. There is a special emphasis on reaching new actors in 
the private sector. The Center works with tools such as convening, coalition 
building, research, information dissemination, training and piloting. The 
Center is now building up its founding staff prior to its formal launch.

The Center for Financial Inclusion is a newly created industry-building

Job Summary:

ACCION International seeks an intern to assist the Center for Financial 
Inclusion with preparing for its launch. Additionally, the incumbent will 
support the Office of the Executive Director with special projects.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

*       Aid preparation for Center launch; 
*       Assist Publications department in editing, formatting materials; 
*       Support the Office of the Executive Director with special projects; 
*       Support the Communication department in Center-related activities; 
and 
*       Assist Program Managers with Process & Product breakthroughs, 
Financing MicroFinance, and Double Bottom Line with research assignments.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

*       Interest in nonprofit, social entrepreneurship, and research and 
development fields. 
*       Excellent writing, research, marketing, and communication skills. 
*       Ability to work well with others, as well as independently. 
*       Solid computer skills to include Microsoft application Word, Excel 
and PowerPoint. 
*       Web research experience preferred. 
*       Language proficiency in Spanish language preferred.

At Venture, we are in the process of developing more programs and resources to help students explore options in careers in the common good. In coming weeks we will be hosting focus groups.  These exciting brainstorming sessions will assist various Brown departments in providing support for student interests in these fields.

EP $50,000 Business Plan Competition.

Deadline - Friday, April 4th, 11:59 pm. Need to fix and finalize your plan?  Come to the EP events this week!

Tuesday, April 1st – Alan Harlam, Director of Social Entrepreneurship at the Swearer Center, is sponsoring an event for student teams working on social enterprise plans.  Teams will have the opportunity to present

 

their ideas to each other and receive informal feedback prior to the competition.  Dinner will take place at Kabob & Curry.  A formal invitation is attached.
Thursday, April 3rd – Mentorship Office Hours with Howard Feinglass of Priam Capital.  Bio: Howard P. Feinglass works at Priam Capital, an investment firm in New York.  He was previously a senior member of the
investment team at EagleRock, a hedge fund firm founded in 2001.  He also worked at Jack Parker Corp, a real estate development firm, as vice president, investments and at Odyssey Partners, an investment firm in
New York.  Howard will be on campus from 12-4 pm and we welcome teams to sign up for 30-minute slots. Sign up quickly because space is limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis!  To sign up,

Friday, April 4th – Business plan submissions due at 11:59 pm!  We would like to receive as many submissions as possible.  In order to enter, students should send their plan to ep@brown.edu.  If the plan is for a social enterprise, please note that in the email and we will ensure that the plans are read by judges who specialize in that area.
Tuesday, April 8th, 6-8 pm – EP’s annual Venture Catalyst Group (VCG)event.  The VCG allows students to give a “dry run” of their business plan presentation to a panel of judges.  The judges will then give informal feedback in preparation for the $50,000 Business Plan Competition.  Space is limited so sign up soon to ep@brown.edu!
